State Blood Donor Center calls for donors as summer stocks run low
During the summer holiday season, blood donor activity traditionally decreases, so the State Blood Donor Center is urging people to donate blood to meet the needs of medical institutions.

The State Blood Donor Center (VADC) reports that the number of blood donors has dropped critically during the summer vacation period, causing shortages in several blood groups. To ensure a continuous blood supply for hospitals and save patients' lives, the center calls on everyone who can to donate blood.
According to VADC representatives, donating blood takes only about 15 minutes, but it can be crucial in saving lives. Donors currently on holiday are especially encouraged – even though daily routines have changed, the center asks them to find time for this important charitable act.
Currently, blood groups O and A are most needed, but donors of other groups are also welcome. Blood can be donated at all VADC donor points in Riga and regions, as well as at mobile donor expeditions. It is recommended to register in advance to avoid waiting.
VADC reminds that any healthy person aged 18 to 65, weighing at least 50 kilograms and meeting other health criteria, can donate blood. A light meal and adequate fluid intake before donation are advised. Donors should bring an identification document.
The aim of this appeal is to increase the number of donors so that during the summer months, when blood stocks traditionally decline, medical institutions can receive the blood they need. VADC notes that each donation can save up to three lives.
