State Allocates €97,259 for Roof Repair of Bebrene Church Damaged by Storm
The Latvian government has granted €97,259 from the contingency budget to restore the roof of the Bebrene St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, which was severely damaged in the storm on June 11.

At a cabinet meeting on June 30, the government approved the allocation of €97,259 from the state budget program "Funds for Unforeseen Events" for the restoration of the roof of the Bebrene St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church. This decision follows the severe storm on June 11 that tore off part of the church's roofing, causing significant damage to the building.
Vitālijs Aizbalts, Chairman of the Augšdaugava Municipality Council, expressed gratitude to state institutions for their prompt action, particularly highlighting the involvement of Finance Minister Māris Kučinskis, Culture Minister Nauris Puntulis, and Jolanta Plūme, Deputy State Secretary for Budget Issues at the Ministry of Finance, in securing the necessary state support.
The municipality also thanked the church parish and the residents of Bebrene, who immediately after the storm helped salvage the cultural and historical valuables inside the church. Thanks to their selfless efforts, three nationally significant cultural and historical altars were protected from potential damage.
Immediately after the disaster, funds donated by residents were used to install a temporary roof. The company SIA "Defass-D" applied construction film at a cost of €3,468.49, which protected the interior of the church from rain and other precipitation until full roof restoration work can begin.
