Anniversary ceremony

On Monday, June 13, a solemn ceremony was held at the Riga Brothers' Cemetery to mark the 20th anniversary of the State Police College (VPK). The event paid tribute to Latvia's freedom fighters and fallen police and interior ministry personnel, acknowledging their self-sacrifice and bravery.

The college's history dates back 35 years: on June 13, 1991, the Training Centre of the Police Department of the Ministry of the Interior was opened, later becoming the Police School. Twenty years ago, on July 13, 2006, by a Cabinet of Ministers order, the State Police College was established as an educational institution under the State Police.

Speeches and core values

During the ceremony, VPK Director Colonel Dmitrijs Homenko addressed the attendees. He thanked cadets, faculty, and staff for their professionalism, dedication, and significant contribution to the college's development. Homenko emphasized that it is the people—through their work, knowledge, and commitment—who shape the college's values and strengthen its role in preparing future police officers.

The chaplain of the State Police Chaplaincy Service also spoke, urging those present to remember the values of service, appreciate unity, and honor through a common prayer those who have dedicated their lives to the security of Latvia and society.

Future goals

For two decades, VPK has been training future law enforcement officers for service in the State Police, providing quality education, professional growth, and a strong foundation for successive generations of police officers. The college is steadily developing a modern study environment, improving the study process, and strengthening cooperation with the State Police and other partners.

Special attention is paid not only to professional knowledge and skills but also to the values that characterize every police officer: courage, honesty, and justice. These principles form the basis for the professional development and daily work of future law enforcers.
