On Sunday, 25 October, the traditional concert of the “Bildes” music and art festival will take place in the chamber hall of the VEF Culture Palace in Riga, bringing Latvian musicians on stage together with their family members. The event will be hosted by Ira Dūduma. The concert unites different generations every year, and for many artists the festival has become a tradition where they share their creativity and pass stage experience on to their children.

Who is performing

This year's line-up includes Varis Vētra with his family, the Ziemeļi, Križevics and Miltiņš families, Mārcis Kalniņš with his family, Alise and Silvestrs Sīlis, Edvards and Normunds Rutulis, Elviss Patriks and Ivars Pētersons, Katrīne and Andris Lūkins, Matilde, Edvarts and Kārlis Būmeisters, Katrīna Marija and Ēriks Loks, and Henrijs and Guntars Mucenieks, along with other artists.

What they are preparing

Singer Normunds Rutulis will perform with his son Edvards, who is gradually making a name for himself on the local stage as a promising instrumentalist. The father says they will most likely play the song “Klau, kafiju!” from his latest repertoire, because he wants something new and plans to present the less popular part of his material. He hopes the performance will pleasantly surprise listeners with the continuing musical tradition of the Rutulis family.

Annija Putniņa will take the stage with her daughter Mia and husband Arnolds as a trio. This will be only the second time the family has performed together in this format. Annija says her daughter is rather ambitious and wants to receive some kind of reward; last year she was delighted with the festival T-shirt, and it is her main motivation again this year.

For Kārlis Būmeisters, known as Kažis, the “Bildes” stage is linked with his very first steps in music: in 1992 he performed with the ensemble “Dzeguzīte”, most likely his first concert on a reasonably large stage. Now he takes part so that his children Matilde and Edvarts can experience what it feels like to be watched and listened to by professional musicians as well.
