Abandoned and vandalized car on Ventspils highway – police issued a fine but the car remains
A resident reported an abandoned and partially vandalized Seat Altea on the Ventspils highway near Ķemeri. The car has been there for over a week, wheels stolen, window smashed, but police only cordoned it off and issued a fine.

On the Ventspils highway near Ķemeri, an abandoned and partially destroyed Seat Altea has been standing for an extended period. An eyewitness sent photos indicating the vehicle has been there for more than a week.
During this time, the car's wheels were stolen and a side window was smashed – apparently someone was interested in any valuables inside the cabin. It is unclear why the owner does not remove the vehicle or why the responsible services do not tow it to a special lot. The police or road authorities have cordoned off the car with barriers and issued a fine, but no further action has been taken.
iAuto.lv reminds that a similar case was reported in December 2025 in a segment by 4. studija, which revealed a long list of defects found during a technical inspection. Among the identified issues were faults in the ABS and airbag systems, power steering problems, corrosion on the body and load-bearing elements, as well as multiple defects in the suspension, brakes, and lighting. Many faults were rated “1” (less serious) or “2” (more serious).
Currently, it is unknown whether this car is the same one reported earlier and whether the owner plans to reclaim it. The situation shows that the removal of abandoned cars can be delayed if they do not pose an immediate traffic hazard.
