Man detained in Vērmanes Garden on suspicion of selling drugs
Riga municipal police detained a man in Vērmanes Garden on suspicion of drug dealing. Surveillance cameras recorded him taking a bag of tablets from his underwear and handing them to others in exchange for money.

In Riga's Vērmanes Garden, police have detained a man on suspicion of selling narcotic substances, the Riga municipal police reported. The case has been passed to the State Police, who are carrying out further procedural steps.
How the detention unfolded
On 23 October, staff at the municipal police video surveillance centre noticed a group of several people in Vērmanes Garden, one of whom was possibly selling narcotics. Camera footage shows the man pulling a transparent bag of what may be tablets out of his underwear and handing them to others, receiving money in return.
After this was observed, the nearest municipal police patrol was sent to the scene and detained the suspected offender.
What was found on the man
Officers found a considerable amount of cash in the man's bag and jacket, along with two tablets. The man claimed the tablets were cold medication. The report does not say what the substances actually are.
Because further investigation was needed, State Police officers were also called to the scene. They are carrying out the subsequent procedural actions.
