Vidzeme rescue firefighters receive five call-outs in 24 hours
The Vidzeme regional office of the State Fire and Rescue Service received five calls over 24 hours, all for rescue work. Soot burned in chimneys of a residential building in Cēsis, and a chimney was damaged in Ķoņi parish.

The Vidzeme regional office of the State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD) received five calls between 6:30 a.m. on 4 November and 6:30 a.m. on 5 November. All five were for rescue work. The information was provided to the portal Valmieras Ziņas by Sandra Vējiņa, senior inspector at the Public Education and Information Division of the VUGD Prevention Department.
Soot in chimneys
One call was to Nītaure parish in Cēsis municipality, and another to the town of Cēsis, where soot was burning in the chimneys of two-storey residential buildings. VUGD reminds residents that chimneys must be cleaned of soot regularly to prevent it from catching fire. When soot burns, high temperatures build up inside the chimney, which over time can damage its structure.
Damaged chimney in Ķoņi parish
Another call came from Ķoņi parish in Valmiera municipality. There, a chimney in a single-storey residential house was damaged because the heating system had been operated incorrectly. No burning was found.
Overall figures for the day
In total, VUGD received 60 calls over the past 24 hours. Of these, 16 were to extinguish fires, 27 were for rescue work, and 17 turned out to be false alarms. The service shared the details of the five Vidzeme calls while reminding people of the importance of keeping chimneys in good condition during the heating season.
