Vidzeme Hospital unveils memorial plaque for its first director Uldis Laucis
Vidzeme Hospital in Valmiera has unveiled a memorial plaque honoring its first director and longtime chief physician, Uldis Laucis. The initiative came from former staff members in recognition of his contribution to the hospital's development.
Vidzeme Hospital has held a ceremony to unveil a memorial plaque dedicated to its first director and longtime chief physician, Uldis Laucis. The news was shared by Agnija Upīte, public relations and marketing specialist at SIA "Vidzemes slimnīca."
The event was attended by hospital management along with guests and former colleagues. Those present were addressed by Uģis Muskovs, chairman of the hospital's board, and Jānis Baiks, chairman of the Valmiera Municipality council. The idea for the plaque originated with Juris Apsītis, a former hospital director, whose initiative led to the memorial being created. The plaque was formally unveiled by Muskovs, Baiks and Apsītis, and will now be located in the rest area of the hospital's Building B.
Muskovs noted that the tribute responds to a heartfelt initiative from former employees and honors Laucis's significant contribution. This year, on September 29, Laucis would have turned 90, making the plaque a gesture of gratitude for the foundation on which the hospital's entire development rests.
A legacy in the hospital's history
Uldis Laucis led Valmiera Hospital from 1962 to 1986. Through his persistence and determination, construction of a new hospital complex was achieved, which helped raise the standard of medical care in both Valmiera and the wider Vidzeme region.
According to data from "Firmas.lv," SIA "Vidzemes slimnīca" was registered in 1995 and has share capital of 17.3 million euros. Last year the company posted turnover of 31.24 million euros and profit of 845,090 euros. Its shares are held by Valmiera Municipality (74.12%), Valka Municipality (24.98%) and Riga Stradiņš University (0.9%).
