Man opens fire with assault rifle near military enlistment office in Khmelnytskyi region
Police in Khmelnytskyi region have detained a 31-year-old man who, while intoxicated, fired several shots at a military enlistment office fence.
Law enforcement officers in Khmelnytskyi region have arrested a suspect in a shooting near a territorial recruitment center (TCC). According to the police and prosecutor's office, the incident occurred on the evening of June 17 near the Khmelnytskyi district TCC in the town of Letychiv.
Preliminary investigation shows that a 31-year-old man, under the influence of alcohol, came to the facility carrying an automatic weapon which he had previously declared in accordance with the law. During a conflict with military personnel, he fired several shots towards the fence of the administrative building and then fled the scene.
Police quickly located and apprehended the man. Seized items include the assault rifle, two magazines, and 55 rounds of ammunition. Authorities are currently deciding whether to notify the detainee of suspicion and to request a court order for pre-trial detention.
