The 18th round of the Latvian "Tonybet" Virslīga marked the end of the first half of the season. While the top three teams remain stable, the places behind them are a scramble of unpredictable results.

The key match saw FK "Tukums 2000" host BFC "Daugavpils" ending in a 1-1 draw. Tukums played most of the second half with ten men after Kristers Volkovs received a second yellow card. The hosts took the lead in the 75th minute through Rūdolfs Meļķis, but Daugavpils equalized in the 88th minute via Roslans Džiki. The visitors almost snatched a win in stoppage time but Artjoms Garža missed a good chance.

Notably, 18-year-old Ukrainian player Garža played his last match for BFC Daugavpils as he is moving to Czech top-tier club FC Teplice. Garža, who has lived in Daugavpils since age 14, may obtain Latvian citizenship, potentially making him eligible for Latvian youth and national teams.

Both league leaders secured convincing victories before their upcoming clash. RFS beat FK "Grobiņa" 3-1 away, while "Riga FC" defeated "Ogre United" 4-1 also on the road. Meanwhile, FK "Liepāja" won 2-1 at home against "Super Nova" in the first match under new head coach Vladimir Vasiļjevs. Liepāja came from behind despite being outplayed statistically. Vasiļjevs, a 38-year-old Estonian with previous success in Estonia and Slovakia, said he needs time to implement changes.

FK "Auda" failed to secure a fourth consecutive win, drawing 1-1 with FS "Jelgava". Jelgava remains winless in six matches.

The next round features a crucial top-of-the-table match between champions "Riga FC" and current leaders RFS. BFC "Daugavpils" will host "Super Nova", while "Grobiņa" faces "Liepāja".
