The Vītolu Foundation, which awards donor-funded scholarships for higher education to young people in Latvia, is supporting 843 students from various municipalities in the 2026/2027 academic year. Among them are 22 young people from Bauska Municipality. Total scholarship payments exceed two million euros, according to foundation board member Inna Rozenšteina.

Who provides the support

The scholarships are possible thanks to individual donors, organisations and companies that have established their own scholarships. This year, students are backed by supporters from Latvia, Australia, Canada, the USA, Sweden, the United Kingdom, Venezuela and Croatia. Rozenšteina says the foundation helps talented and determined young people whose life stories are sometimes quite harsh.

Students from Bauska Municipality

Ernests Lešinskis receives the Aigars Fadejevs memorial scholarship, and Rihards Rūdolfs Jubelis the In Memoriam Benita Daude (Odiņa) scholarship. Lolita Griškeviča receives the Mārtiņš and Gunita Spravņiks scholarship, Dagnija Novicka the Velta Skultāne memorial scholarship, and Adriāna Gertmane the Dr. Emīls Osis and Dace Muriks-Osis scholarship. Karīna Kondore was awarded the Kristiāns Hrgetič scholarship, Žanete Munda the Leopolds Sīpoliņš memorial scholarship, Henrijs Kravals the Imants Freibergs memorial scholarship, Kate Esīte the Guntars Kokorevičs scholarship, and Keita Kondore the OP Bank scholarship.

Marta Manika receives the Jānis Apsītis scholarship, Marta Červida the Arnis Apsītis scholarship, Viktorija Zubova the Puteņi family scholarship, and Vendija Volosovska the Friends scholarship. Ilze Krasta and Diāna Romanovska were awarded Vilis and Marta Vītols scholarships. Daniela Pavlova and Kitija Markevica receive the Anonymous Australian Donor memorial scholarships, Natālija Saveļjeva, Dafne Rence and Denīze Rence the Asja and Berndt Everts memorial scholarships, and Anete Čakša the Aina Skaubītis memorial scholarship.

Former recipients become donors

The foundation is guided by the wish to reach, through education, a level at which one can help others in the future. Graduates put this into practice by becoming donors themselves. Some have only recently started working, while others are still studying for a master's degree or in residency. In August, former recipients and friends of the foundation took part in the Friends scholarship fundraising campaign, and in September 23 students began their studies with its support.

Next application round

Applications for scholarships for the 2027/2028 academic year can be submitted from 1 February to 1 March 2027. Information is available at www.vitolufonds.lv.
