Vocci's smart ring brings a new form factor to meeting note-taking
Vocci has launched a ring-shaped meeting notetaker that transcribes conversations accurately but raises privacy concerns and still has an underdeveloped app.
The market for meeting note-taking hardware already includes pendants, pins, and credit-card-sized devices, but Vocci has chosen to try a new shape: a ring. Other companies have released similar ring devices, but Vocci's version is built with meeting note-taking as its central function.
The ring has a single button: double-tapping starts and stops recording, while tapping and holding lets users ask questions to the Vocci AI assistant, though this only works when the companion app is open. An indicator light and a haptic motor provide feedback during recording. The ring weighs under 6 grams, uses a titanium surface, and the company says it can record for up to 8 hours on a single charge. It comes with a case that can recharge the ring up to three times.
Accurate transcripts, confusing software
In testing, the ring performed well capturing long conversations even in noisy environments, converting most speech into accurate transcripts. However, for shorter notes, the app tends to generate AI-written insights longer than the note itself. The app's structure — split into Chat, Highlights, Notes, and a Base tab — feels confusing and at times redundant. It lacks direct integration with reminder apps, and the option to connect via Model Context Protocol to other AI assistants only appeared a few weeks ago.
Privacy concerns
Because the ring looks like ordinary jewelry, people around the wearer may not realize a conversation is being recorded — its indicator light faces the wearer rather than others in the room. Many jurisdictions require disclosure when recording a conversation, and this device's discreet design makes it easier to bypass that requirement. The company says it encourages users to disclose recording, though that may not be enough to address the concern.
At $249, the ring costs more than comparable notetakers, which the company attributes to its lightweight, compact design. Observers expect more variety in meeting-notetaker hardware形态 in coming years as users settle on preferred formats.
