Wolverhampton Wanderers have appointed Cesar Peixoto as their new head coach. The 46-year-old Portuguese joins on a two-year contract, taking over from Rob Edwards, who was dismissed last week.

Peixoto arrives from Primeira Liga side Gil Vicente, where he led the club to a sixth-place finish in the 2025-26 season. This will be his first managerial role outside Portugal. Notably, his tenure at Gil Vicente marked the first time in his seven-year managerial career that he completed a full season with one club.

Wolves will compete in the Championship next season after finishing bottom of the Premier League, their first time in the second tier since 2018.

Club executive chairman Nathan Shi expressed confidence in the appointment. Shi noted that Peixoto displayed qualities crucial for the club's future, including a clear identity, strong leadership, and a drive to succeed. He highlighted Peixoto's mentality, work ethic, and willingness to embrace the challenge. Shi described Peixoto as young, energetic, and ambitious, but also thoughtful and accountable. He believes Peixoto is an excellent fit for the culture and vision being built at Wolves.
