WhatsApp working to restore accounts after wave of blocks
Meta is restoring access to WhatsApp accounts that were disabled and placed under review over the past few hours.

Over the past few hours, multiple social media users have reported that their WhatsApp accounts were blocked and put under review by Meta. The company, responding to TechCrunch's inquiries, said it is working to restore access to those accounts.
Those affected described on X and Threads that they suddenly could no longer use their accounts. When trying to log in, WhatsApp displayed a message saying that account activity and device information were being checked to ensure compliance with its Terms of Service, with a result typically expected within 24 hours.
WhatsApp has more than 3 billion monthly active users worldwide, meaning even a relatively small disruption can affect thousands of people.
Meta acknowledged the issue and told TechCrunch it was being resolved. The company did not specify whether users in particular regions were impacted or what caused the problem. A spokesperson said the company is always working to stay ahead of those trying to abuse the service and bans accounts to help keep others safe. Sometimes mistakes happen, and when they do, the company tries to fix them quickly to get people back to chatting. The spokesperson confirmed that action had been taken to restore the affected accounts.
No further details were provided about why a number of accounts ended up under review.
