Zelensky Offers Germany Ukrainian Expertise After Leipzig Incident
Following a call with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Ukraine is ready to share its expertise and experience to help Germany after Russia was found responsible for a hybrid attack on Leipzig airport. The two also discussed a so-called Drone Deal nearing completion.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said Ukraine is prepared to assist Germany with expertise, experience or other forms of support wherever needed, after it emerged that Russia was behind a hybrid attack in Leipzig.
Zelensky made the statement on Telegram following a phone call with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. The two leaders discussed the Russian attack on the airfield in Leipzig.
"This is another Russian escalation, and it is important that Germany has responded," Zelensky said, adding that Merz briefed him on the measures taken. Zelensky said he assured the chancellor that Ukraine stands ready to help with its expertise, accumulated experience, or in other areas where Germany requires support.
Drone Deal nearing finalization
According to Zelensky, the so-called Drone Deal, currently in its finalization stage, will certainly add defensive capabilities for both Germany and Ukraine. The leaders discussed the contents of the agreement and a possible signing date, though further details were not disclosed.
Ukraine's ambassador to Germany, Oleksii Makeiev, had earlier said Kyiv is already actively cooperating with Berlin to help Germany counter Russian sabotage.
As a reminder, on September 1 Germany directly accused Russia of the hybrid attack on Leipzig airport that occurred in early August, and announced response measures, including the closure of Russia's consulate general in Bonn and the "Russian House" in Berlin.
