Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, responding online to journalists' questions, said he expects a meeting with US President Donald Trump in the 20s of September. According to Yevropeiska Pravda, Zelensky expressed hope that the meeting would allow him to raise the issue of ballistic weapons packages from the Americans.

Anti-ballistic program "Freya"

The Ukrainian president recalled that work is currently underway on an anti-ballistic program called "Freya," and said he hopes the Americans support this initiative. However, he noted, until the program is ready, Ukraine needs ballistic weapons packages directly from the United States.

Zelensky said he counts on a meeting around September 20 to raise this topic, expressing hope it would bring a concrete result.

Possible location and context

The president did not specify where the meeting might take place. However, high-level debates at the UN General Assembly are set to begin in New York on September 22, an event Ukraine's president traditionally attends, making it a likely setting for such talks.

Zelensky had earlier suggested there is a possibility of holding a trilateral round of negotiations between the United States, Ukraine, and Russia, though no final decision on this has yet been made.
