Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked the European Union for opening the first cluster of accession negotiations, calling it significant political and moral support for the country and its people.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy has expressed gratitude for the European Union member states' decision to approve the first cluster of accession talks, scheduled to be confirmed at an intergovernmental conference on Monday, which will also involve Moldova. In a statement posted on social media, he emphasized that this step is crucial support for Ukraine and its people.
The president specifically thanked all those who fight for Ukraine, work for the state, and help defend its national interests. He also thanked all EU partners and each leader individually for this strong step in favor of Europe.
"Ukraine is defending itself and thereby all of Europe – the idea that European nations can live united, freely, and in peace," Zelenskyy stressed.
He added that Ukraine has fulfilled the necessary requirements, and the EU has kept its word. The opening of the cluster is significant political and moral support for the state and its citizens. Preparations have also been made for subsequent clusters. Zelenskyy also congratulated Moldova on this joint step.
Earlier, the EU officially confirmed the start of accession talks with Ukraine on Friday. Prior to that, Ukraine met the last requirement of Hungary, related to national minority issues.
