ZF to Showcase 360-Degree Safety System for Trucks in Hanover
German company ZF has developed a scalable safety system that combines sensor data from trucks and trailers to reduce blind spots. The technology will be on display at the IAA Transportation show in Hanover in September.
German technology company ZF has introduced new active safety technologies designed for trucks and trailers. As reported by German media, the solution is built around a scalable 360-degree safety system that combines sensors, environment perception, braking and steering systems in one unified platform. The goal is not only to improve road safety, but also to pave the way for more advanced levels of vehicle automation in the future.
The new approach allows driver assistance functions to operate beyond the tractor itself, integrating the semi-trailer or trailer into the same safety envelope. This is achieved through a fast Automotive Ethernet communication interface known as Truck-Trailer Link, which supports continuous data exchange between the different parts of the vehicle combination. Data gathered by radars and cameras on both the truck and the trailer are combined into a single model of the surrounding environment.
As a result, the system ensures continuous 360-degree object detection, significantly reducing the blind spots that are commonly associated with traditional truck safety systems. The technology is intended to give drivers more effective support across a range of scenarios, including highway driving, city traffic, and maneuvering within company premises and logistics centers.
The new technology is set to be presented to the public at the IAA Transportation commercial vehicle exhibition in Hanover, which will take place from September 14 to 20.
