In recent years, the belief has grown that the superhero movie boom—which began with Christopher Nolan's Batman films and the first "Avengers" movie—is gradually winding down. Audiences are seen as tired of the genre, Marvel's output is viewed as oversaturated, and characters who once reliably drew crowds now struggle to fill theaters. A recent example is DC's new-universe film "Supergirl," which underperformed at the box office.
Against this backdrop, Tom Holland's fourth solo "Spider-Man" film, "Spider-Man: Brand New Day," stands out, having grossed approximately $1.67 billion worldwide in just ten days and currently ranking as the highest-earning film of the year.
Spider-Man as the exception

The new film is set four years after the ending of "Spider-Man: No Way Home" (2021), in which Doctor Strange's spell erased Peter Parker from everyone's memory. As a result, the character—once a student with friends who sought Tony Stark's approval—now lives alone and anonymous, without Stark's technology, the Avengers, or those closest to him. This situation gives Holland's portrayal of Peter Parker, for the first time, a resemblance to the original Spider-Man known from the comics and Sam Raimi's films—a somewhat lonely, unlucky young man trying to make the right choices in difficult circumstances.
