The Aizkraukle Museum of History and Art has opened a new exhibition to the public, spread across three floors, titled 'Soviet Years.' The exhibition is dedicated to life under Soviet rule and offers visitors a chance to explore that period from multiple perspectives.

Two views of history

The museum's creators note that memories of the Soviet era vary greatly among people. For some, it is associated with the time of their youth, while for others it recalls restrictions, fear and losses experienced during that period.

What the exhibition covers

The new exhibition allows visitors to trace the construction history of the Pļaviņi hydroelectric power station, which was a significant industrial facility in the region during Soviet times. In addition, the exhibition depicts everyday life of that era, giving insight into how people lived and worked under Soviet rule.

The exhibition is spread across three floors of the museum, allowing visitors to explore various aspects of this historical period in greater depth — both in terms of technical and industrial development and social life.
