Amazon Alexa Plus devices hit by bizarre bug that triggers repeated 'lalala' singing

Some Amazon Echo speakers running Alexa Plus have been getting stuck repeating 'lalala' for minutes at a time, often mid-conversation. Amazon says it's aware and working on a fix.

Over the past several weeks, users on Reddit have reported a strange malfunction affecting Amazon Echo speakers equipped with the Alexa Plus assistant. Instead of responding normally, some devices suddenly start saying — or even singing — nothing but "lalala" on a loop, with the behavior sometimes lasting for several minutes. In many cases, this happens in the middle of an otherwise normal conversation between the user and the assistant.

Reports of the issue have surfaced repeatedly, with the most recent one posted just a few days ago. The bug doesn't appear limited to a single Echo model — multiple types of the smart speaker have reportedly shown the same behavior. Several affected users have shared video recordings documenting the odd glitch. One such clip was picked up and republished on YouTube by the tech outlet Android Authority.

When users have asked Alexa afterward about why it was repeating "lalala," the assistant has apparently had no awareness of having done so, giving no indication it recognizes or remembers the strange episode.

Amazon has acknowledged the problem exists. In a statement given to Android Authority, the company said the bug is affecting "a small number" of Alexa Plus users and confirmed that a fix is currently being developed. No timeline for when the fix will roll out has been given.
