Anita Zambare and Helvijs Kārkliņš record a 30-year-old Ats Priedītis song
Latvian singers Anita Zambare and Helvijs Kārkliņš have released a new recording of "Mana balss", a song composer Ats Priedītis wrote about 30 years ago. Until now it had never been recorded.
A song called "Mana balss" ("My Voice"), written by Latvian composer Ats Priedītis around 30 years ago, has finally received a recording. The new version is performed by singers Anita Zambare and Helvijs Kārkliņš, who have teamed up again after a longer break.
The track was recorded in the studio of sound engineer Edgars Roļskis, who is also known for his work in the ensemble "Zelta kniede". According to the musicians, the session took place on a sunny autumn Sunday.
Earlier collaboration
Zambare and Kārkliņš have worked together before, recording several other songs by Priedītis, so this release continues that partnership.
What the song is about
Zambare explains that the song's emotional message touches on themes close to many people: longing for closeness, unspoken feelings, fear of revealing one's true self, and the wish that the truth might emerge from behind a mask of indifference. In her words, it is a song about the inner voice, which sometimes says what a person has not yet dared to say aloud.
The author's view
Priedītis himself welcomed the new recording. He said the song is quite deep and emotional in both content and melody, especially as performed by Zambare and Kārkliņš.
The source review notes that the song's mood is more associated with quiet, snowy months than with autumn, so the release timing may not be ideal. The reviewer also describes the lyrics as sufficiently substantial and singles out Zambare's vocal parts as particularly well sung.
