Latvian ice hockey goaltender Elvis Merzlikins may end his time in North America after the 2026/27 season. He plays in the NHL (National Hockey League), the top professional hockey league in the world, where he has spent this stage of his career. That period has allowed him to build considerable wealth.
What Apollo.lv calculated
The Latvian news portal Apollo.lv examined how much of the amounts written into his NHL contracts has actually reached the goaltender's own pocket. Headline contract millions and money actually received are not the same thing, so such an estimate helps show his real income.
Is he Latvia's top-earning hockey player?
The authors of the piece also tried to establish whether Merzlikins is the highest-earning Latvian hockey player of all time. The source excerpt does not reveal the results of the calculation, so specific sums and conclusions are found in the full Apollo.lv article.
Career in the NHL
According to the source, Merzlikins has left his mark in the NHL. At the same time, his work in North America has given him financial security, which, the publication says, has enabled him to build a fortune.
