Latvian ice hockey goaltender Elvis Merzlikins may finish his time in North America with the 2026/27 season. He plays in the NHL, the National Hockey League, the top professional league in the sport, based in the United States and Canada. The news site TVNET has examined this stage of his career from a financial angle.
What TVNET estimated
According to TVNET, Merzlikins has left his mark on the NHL. This period has also allowed him to build up considerable wealth. The journalists tried to calculate how much of the millions written into his contracts has actually reached the goaltender's own pocket.
The sum named in a contract and the money received are not the same thing, so the estimate concerns what the player has actually kept.
Comparison with other Latvians
The publication also tried to establish whether Merzlikins is the highest-earning Latvian hockey player of all time. The full answer and the specific figures are in the TVNET article.
