Apple, the maker of the iPhone and the Apple Music streaming service, has revealed a new logo and visual style for Apple Music. The logo shows a musical note beneath a rippling surface, and the company says it is meant to fit with its Liquid Glass software design language. The changes will arrive with Apple's next software releases, including iOS 27.2 and macOS 27.2.

How the logo was made

Apple says the animation was created with practical effects rather than computer graphics. The logo was etched into the glass floor of a small tank, which was then filled with mineral oil and covered with a transparent lid placed over the logo. An instrument then played a short series of tones, making the oil ripple, and the whole process was filmed.

The project was a collaboration between Apple, music producer Fred Again and a company called NEST Acoustics. In an introductory video, a narrator says the aim of the rebrand was to let sound create the visuals and to produce "the perfect sound wave."

Where the changes will appear

The moving, rippling logo will be used at the start of Apple Music videos, such as concert footage. The app icon itself is changing from red to black and white, a move that has not been well received by people online. The new icon was spotted in iOS beta 4 by user Andreas Storm, who posted about it in October.
