Survey: Ukrainians split on post-war borders
A new poll shows 32% of Ukrainians believe the border will follow the current front line, while 31% expect a return to 1991 borders. Other responses range from regaining pre-2022 territories to full occupation.

According to a poll conducted by the Rating Group for the International Republican Institute's (IRI) Center for Insights in Survey Research (CISR), Ukrainian public opinion on the country's future borders after the war is divided.
The survey, carried out from May 30 to June 3, 2026, found that 32% of respondents believe Ukraine's borders will run along the current front line. Another 31% expect the country to regain all the territory it had when independence was declared in 1991. 16% said Ukraine will regain the territories it controlled before Russia's full-scale invasion in 2022. 7% said Ukraine will regain Donbas but not Crimea, while 5% said it will regain Crimea but not the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics. 1% said Ukraine will be occupied by Russia, and 3% gave other answers.
The poll used computer-assisted telephone interviewing (CATI) with a sample of 2,404 respondents aged 18 and older. It covered all oblasts except temporarily occupied territories and areas without Ukrainian mobile coverage at the time. The margin of error is approximately 2% with a confidence level of 0.95.
