Ukraine's Security Service (SBU) has claimed that it successfully attacked hangars housing Russian fighter jets at the Saky airfield in Crimea. According to the SBU, the attack involved five drones that precisely struck the targets. The hangars contained Russian Su-30 fighter aircraft. The claim has not been independently verified, and Russian authorities have not yet commented. The Saky airfield is a key Russian military base in Crimea, which Moscow annexed in 2014. Ukraine regularly strikes Russian military assets in occupied territories. If confirmed, this attack would further degrade Russian air force capabilities. The SBU is Ukraine's state security agency responsible for intelligence and counterintelligence. In recent months, the SBU has intensified operations against Russian targets behind the front lines. Ukrainian officials say these strikes are part of broader efforts to weaken Russian military power. The exact timing of the attack has not been disclosed, and the extent of damage to the airfield infrastructure remains unknown. Such strikes are typically carried out using domestically produced or modified drones. Ukraine has repeatedly targeted facilities in Crimea aiming to limit Russian air operations. This particular strike is the first where the SBU officially claimed responsibility for an attack on aircraft hangars.
