Artūrs Šilovs, the 25-year-old Latvian goaltender, has reached an agreement with the NHL's Pittsburgh Penguins on a new one-year contract worth $2.8 million for the upcoming season, up from $850,000 last season.

In the 2023-24 season, Šilovs played 39 regular-season games for the Penguins, recording 19 wins. He posted an 88.8% save percentage and a 3.07 goals-against average. In the Stanley Cup playoffs, he appeared in three games, earning two wins with a 93.9% save percentage and a 1.52 GAA.

This was Šilovs' first full NHL season. Previously, he spent three seasons with the Vancouver Canucks organization, playing sparingly. Last summer, the Canucks traded him to Pittsburgh. Before joining the NHL, he won the AHL's Calder Cup with the Abbotsford Canucks and was named playoff MVP.

Last season, Šilovs split time with Canadian goaltender Stuart Skinner, who recently signed with the Winnipeg Jets. The Penguins now have 22-year-old Russian goaltender Sergey Murashov under contract for next season at $936,000. It is expected that Šilovs and Murašov will form the team's top goaltending duo. Pittsburgh also extended the contract of Swedish goaltender Joel Blomqvist, giving him a two-year deal worth an average of $875,000 per season.
