Eight years after the brutal murder of Līga Skromane in India, her sister Ilze has returned to the fateful area in Kerala state after a long hiatus. Līga had traveled to India following a psychological breakdown after a ceremony involving ayahuasca – a psychotropic drink typically made from a vine mixed with various other plants. She had attempted suicide and lived in constant anxiety. Ilze brought her to India, knowing a place where Līga could receive help.
Līga was last seen leaving an Ayurvedic center in the village of Pothencode to buy cigarettes. Forty days later, two fishermen found her mutilated headless body in a mangrove forest near a river. Despite the passage of eight years, the case remains unsolved.
Recently, it became known that Ilze has returned to India, visiting locations connected to the tragedy. She has put forward several proposals, but their content is not yet disclosed. They may relate to the investigation’s progress or the preservation of memory. Relatives hope that new information could help uncover the truth about Līga’s death.
