Asus ROG Swift PG27UCWM Brings Tandem RGB Stripe OLED to 27-Inch Monitors

Asus's new PG27UCWM monitor delivers sharp image quality and strong HDR performance, though its glossy finish produces noticeable reflections. The device is among the first to bring tandem RGB Stripe OLED technology to a standard 27-inch size.

Asus has released a new monitor, the ROG Swift PG27UCWM, featuring a tandem RGB Stripe OLED panel with a native resolution of 3840 x 2160. Unlike earlier OLED monitors that used unconventional sub-pixel arrangements which could hurt text clarity, this panel uses a more standard RGB sub-pixel layout that resolves the issue.

The underlying technology, sometimes marketed as "5th-Gen QD-OLED," previously appeared only in 34-inch monitors such as the Alienware AW3426DW. With the PG27UCWM, it now arrives in the more common 27-inch format, delivering a pixel density of roughly 165 pixels per inch.

Color and Contrast

The monitor's color gamut covers 94 percent of DCI-P3 and 89 percent of AdobeRGB — somewhat narrower than top QD-OLED monitors, which can reach up to 98 and 95 percent respectively. Still, the panel's high contrast and clarity give its overall image quality an impression of being in the upper tier among OLED displays.

The main drawback is a glossy screen coating that produces mirror-like reflections, noticeable even under modest ambient lighting. This is a divisive trait: some OLED enthusiasts favor glossy finishes because they enhance contrast and color richness, while others prefer matte screens that minimize visible reflections.

HDR and Refresh Rates

In testing, the monitor reached brightness levels of up to 800 nits in HDR mode, consistent with other premium OLED monitors though not a record. It also supports Dolby Vision HDR, a relatively uncommon feature. The PG27UCWM offers a refresh rate of up to 240 Hz at 4K resolution, plus a dual-mode option that drops resolution to 1080p in exchange for refresh rates up to 480 Hz.
