MAGA influencer Laura Loomer reverses course on Ukraine after Kyiv visit
Far-right influencer Laura Loomer dramatically changed her stance on the war in Ukraine after visiting Kyiv and interviewing President Zelenskyy, now supporting Ukraine and condemning Russia.
Laura Loomer, a prominent far-right US influencer with nearly two million social media followers, has performed a stunning about-turn on the war in Ukraine following a visit to Kyiv and an interview with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Previously known for downplaying Russia's invasion and amplifying Kremlin propaganda, Loomer wrote on X this week: "Just experienced my first air raid in Ukraine. Sirens blaring. This is every day for every Ukrainian. I often said I don't care. Looking back, that wasn't very nice of me to say. We need to have moral clarity."
During the interview in the garden of the presidential palace, Zelenskyy confirmed to Loomer that he will meet Donald Trump in Washington next week and is likely to attend Senator Lindsey Graham's funeral. The meeting comes as a new Russia sanctions bill moves through Congress.
Zelenskyy said his relationship with the US president has significantly improved, especially after a brief conversation in the Vatican in April 2025. "We changed the relations during 15, 20 minutes," he said. Trump praised Loomer's interview on Truth Social, calling it "Very good!!!!"
Loomer now supports US sanctions on Russia, arguing that the Kremlin is a close ally of Iran and provides explosives to kill US soldiers. "The United States needs to break Russia's economy until they submit to peace," she wrote.
During her visit, Loomer toured the Dormition Cathedral of Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, which was hit by a Russian drone attack in June, and accused Putin of hypocrisy for portraying Russia as a pro-Christian nation. She also met Ukraine's chief rabbi, Moshe Reuven Azman, and visited a McDonald's repeatedly struck by Russian missiles, where she demonstratively ate a cheeseburger outside.
Anton Gerashchenko, a former Ukrainian government adviser, called the interview "important and necessary," saying it "records a public break with Russian narratives and propaganda by part of the MAGA movement." Zelenskyy's office thanked Loomer for her courage in coming to Ukraine.
Meanwhile, Russia continues its strikes: a ballistic missile attack on Friday killed six people in the Kyiv region, and an air bomb killed five more in Sloviansk.
