This week, a combined pedestrian and cycling path section in Ķekava was officially opened, running from Zvejnieku Street to the A5 roundabout. It is the final segment of the project "Development of Regional Cycling Infrastructure in the Rīga Metropolitan Area, Ķekava Municipality," connecting the Rīga city border to the A5 highway.

The final construction phase included asphalt paving, energy-efficient LED street lighting, landscaping, and installation of benches. To improve road safety, the intersection of Rīgas and Nākotnes streets was rebuilt with a traffic light and additional lanes.

The over 8.5 km long cycle path was started in autumn 2023. Total costs amount to nearly €4 million, with €3.3 million coming from the EU Recovery and Resilience Facility and almost €1 million from the Ķekava municipality.

Meanwhile, Rīga continues building a new cycle path section from the Mūkusalas roundabout to the city border at the A7 highway. This 4.2 km route will connect to the existing Rīga cycling network, linking the city center with Ķekava, Baloži, Rāmava, Katlakalns, and Valdlauči. Construction is scheduled for completion by the 2026 building season.
