From July 17 to 18, soldiers of the 53rd Infantry Battalion of the 1st Riga Brigade of the National Guard will carry out planned training in the Bārbele and Ozolaine areas of Bauska municipality. The aim is to maintain and improve the battalion's combat capabilities, according to Iveta Rozenfelde, a representative of the 1st Riga Brigade's Communication Department.
During the exercises, soldiers will enhance skills in operating in wooded terrain, mission planning, and the use of unmanned aerial vehicles. Rozenfelde explained that military training in the National Guard is organized continuously throughout the year, with various tactical tasks in both summer and winter. These regular drills improve readiness to defend the areas of responsibility of National Guard units.
The training will involve drones and training ammunition that produces sound but poses no threat to life or health. Temporary movement of military vehicles on roads may occur. After the exercises, the used area will be cleaned up, the National Guard confirms.
Any Latvian citizen aged 18 or older with at least B1 level proficiency in the state language and appropriate health status can join the National Guard.
