Barcelona's Masia closes €18 million debut fund and opens a physical hub
Masia, a Barcelona-based venture capital platform, has closed its €18 million first fund for early-stage AI and frontier tech companies. It is also opening a physical hub for founders and investors in the sector.
Masia, a venture capital platform based in Barcelona, Spain, has announced that it closed its debut fund at €18 million. The fund is meant for investments in early-stage companies working in artificial intelligence and so-called frontier technologies that have a connection to Barcelona. Venture capital platforms raise money from investors and put it into young, high-risk businesses.
Who backed the fund
More than 70 limited partners, who are the investors in the fund, supported it. They include successful technology founders, executives and experienced investors. Two institutional investors also joined them.
The physical hub
Alongside the close of the fund, Masia is opening a physical hub aimed at frontier tech founders and investors. This means the platform is offering more than capital alone: it is also providing a place in Barcelona where people in the sector can meet.
The announcement did not give other detailed investment terms. It is therefore not yet known how many companies the fund plans to back or what the typical size of each investment will be.
