Open Street Workout Championship in Bauska: 1,722 Squats in One Hour
Bauska City Stadium hosted the open street workout championship, where participants competed in pull-ups, push-ups, and squats. A standout performance came from Markus Miķelsons, who completed 1,722 squats in nearly an hour.

On Saturday, July 4, the Bauska City Stadium was the venue for the 2026 Bauska District Open Street Workout Championship named "Bauskas spēcīgākais" (Bauska's Strongest). The event, led by Edgars Mediņš, was organized by the Bauska Municipality Sports and Health Department. Competitors tested their strength in three disciplines: pull-ups, push-ups, and squats. Although the weather was changeable—sunny one moment, rainy the next—it did not dampen the athletes' spirits.
Outside the competition, Markus Miķelsons of the "A7 ielu vingrotāji" team performed a kind of half-marathon, completing 1,722 squats in almost an hour, which was one of the most impressive feats of the day.
Results: In the children's category, Martins Ludvigs won (23 pull-ups, 100 push-ups, 84 squats), followed by Olivers Rēbuks (20/48/250) and Ralfs Obolevičs (6/36/616). Among women, Rasa Ludviga took first place (2/10/101), with Inese Mediņa (2/10/60) second and Evelīna Krauja (0/10/0) third. In the men's adult group, a tight competition saw Edvards Bonāts win (20/109/350), local National Guard commander Elmārs Popakuls place second (38/73/180), and Edvards Kapelis take third (23/50/501).
The event brought together current and former street workout enthusiasts, who shared experience and learned new skills. Many expressed hope that Bauska would soon offer regular street workout training, though specific plans have yet to be finalized.
