Beer culture has its own unique terminology and hobbies – for example, a labeorphilist collects beer bottles, a tegestologist gathers beer mats, and senosilikaphobia is the fear of an empty beer glass. Despite beer being an alcoholic beverage, its history and production process can be fascinating.

Now managed by SIA "Cido Grupa", "Bauskas alus" celebrates its 45th anniversary. The brewery's roots go back to 1962, when collective farms in the Bauska district – "Uzvara", "Priekšzīme", "Padomju Latvija", and "Ļeņins" – jointly built an inter-collective farm cannery. The beer equipment was started up in November 1981, initially producing traditional varieties such as "Marta alus", "Rīgas alus", and "Senču alus".

In 1982, production began of "Bauskas gaišais" and "Bauskas tumšais". Over time, the company has experimented with various products, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. From the last century, malt drinks and lemonades like "Tarhuns", "Cigo", and "Loranga" remain memorable. Tour guide Līga Milišuna reveals behind-the-scenes stories that beer drinkers often don't consider.

Even though beer is an everyday drink today, "Bauskas alus" takes pride in its 45-year history and traditions.
