The Latvian government has awarded a Cabinet of Ministers Certificate of Appreciation to the association «Laiks Jauniešiem» from Bauska municipality for its work with young people. Fifteen other figures in science, education, youth and sport are also honoured.

The Latvian government has backed a proposal by the Ministry of Education and Science (IZM) to award the Cabinet of Ministers Certificate of Appreciation to 16 scientists and professionals in education, youth affairs and sport for significant contributions to the development of science and education in Latvia. One of the recipients is the association «Laiks Jauniešiem», active in Bauska municipality and led by Gints Jankovskis. It is a notable recognition for a non-governmental organisation that works with children and young people.
Reason for the award
According to the ministry, the association was recognised for its contribution to youth work, promoting the development of a democratic, inclusive and forward-looking society.
About the association
«Laiks Jauniešiem» was founded in 2019. It operates not only in Bauska municipality but in many other regions of Latvia, and has attracted 363 participants. Its members describe their aims as creating opportunities for children and young people to discover their strengths, carry out their ideas and take part in society, as well as providing support, knowledge and experience so that every young person feels heard, valued and safe to take the next step.
On 16 August this year the association also organised Family Day in Bauska's Town Hall Square.
Statement by the association
On its website, the association thanked young people, their parents, its team, volunteers, partners and supporters. It also expressed gratitude to those who point out shortcomings, saying this prompts it to reconsider decisions and look for better solutions. The association says it recognises that it cannot be excellent for everyone, and that it is important to work honestly, listen and correct what needs correcting. It wishes to share the recognition with everyone who has appreciated its work or helps it continue. The statement ends by saying that young people are the association's «present».
