Wind turbines found not to fit the landscape around Rundāle Palace; Bauska County park likely to be scrapped

An environmental impact assessment led experts to recommend dropping six wind turbines planned in Bauska County, in order to protect the cultural and historical landscape of Rundāle Palace. Local residents remain concerned because 14 more turbines are still planned next door, in Jelgava County.

The construction of six turbines of the planned "Eleja" wind farm in Bauska County in Latvia will most likely not go ahead. During the environmental impact assessment, experts recommended abandoning the idea so that the cultural and historical landscape of Rundāle Palace can be preserved.

Developer and residents

The project developer promises to take the experts' recommendations into account. Even so, local residents are still worried. The reason is that the remaining 14 wind power stations are still planned to be built nearby, in the neighbouring Jelgava County.

The situation was reported by Zemgale Regional Television.

What comes next

The source gives no further information on whether the remaining turbines will be built in Jelgava County. It also does not say when or how a final decision on the development of the wind farm will be made.
