Data collected by multi-service company Tele2 reveals that children with restricted mobile data allowances use 230% more internet in summer than in winter and spring, when student data consumption is lowest. For children with unlimited plans, seasonal differences are smaller because they already consume more data on a regular basis. On average, students use about 45 GB of mobile data per month.

Oskars Fīrmanis, Tele2's public relations manager, notes that the data reflects the reality that parents find it harder to engage their children without screens during summer. Reasons include children having more unstructured free time, parents working, and not all families being able to afford summer camps. This trend highlights broader questions about children's leisure time and digital habits. Fīrmanis advises parents to discuss safe internet use, ask about their children's online activities, and set reasonable screen time rules.
