Warning of Thunderstorms and Heat: LVĢMC Issues Alerts for Several Regions
The Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Center, together with the State Fire and Rescue Service, issued warnings on Sunday for thunderstorms in the west and east, and intense heat in Riga.
On Sunday morning, the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Center (LVĢMC) in cooperation with the State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD) issued several warnings for hazardous weather conditions. First, a thunderstorm warning is in effect from 7:10 AM to 9:00 PM, affecting several regions. During the morning and forenoon, thunderstorms with heavy rain and locally hail are expected in parts of western Latvia, spreading to the east during the day.
Later, an additional warning was issued for thunderstorms in Riga, forecast between 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM. The capital may also experience heavy downpours and hail. In the afternoon, from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM, intense heat is expected in Riga, with air temperatures rising up to +27°C.
Residents are advised to be cautious, monitor weather forecasts, and follow safety recommendations, especially during thunderstorms, when it is advisable to avoid being outdoors and staying near tall trees or metal structures.
