Several wounded as drone swarm hits Moscow region

A large-scale overnight drone attack struck the Moscow region, wounding several people and damaging buildings. Long-range strikes between Russia and Ukraine have intensified sharply as frontline fighting stalls and peace talks remain frozen.

Russian officials said on Tuesday that a total of 620 drones flew toward the Moscow region overnight, wounding several people and damaging buildings in the capital area.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said air defences shot down more than 180 of the drones over the capital region, posting the update on the state-backed MAX platform.

Moscow region Governor Andrey Vorobyov said on Telegram that three people were wounded in the drone swarm, including a 10-year-old girl. He said air defence and electronic warfare units worked through the night and into the morning to repel the large-scale assault.

Worst damage in Pavlovsky Posad

Vorobyov said the most serious consequences occurred in the Pavlovsky Posad district, where a house burned down. A drone also struck a warehouse belonging to e-commerce company Wildberries east of Moscow. The company said its logistics complex in the region sustained minor damage after debris hit a building wall.

Ukraine has targeted several Wildberries warehouses in recent weeks, saying the retailer supplies components used in Russian drone production.

The attack comes as frontline fighting has largely stalled and negotiations remain frozen, with both Russia and Ukraine significantly escalating long-range strikes against each other. This shift has driven civilian casualties to their highest levels since the war's early months in 2022.
