Police have arrested a physics teacher and checkers club leader from Engure Secondary School, accused of gratifying his sexual urges during lessons and club activities. The investigation revealed 25 criminal offenses against minors, with nine children granted special protected status.

The State Police detained a man born in 1950, who worked as a physics teacher and led a checkers club at Engure Secondary School. The suspect was arrested the day after the police received information about possible crimes against children.
During the investigation, it was found that the teacher had satisfied his sexual desires both during lessons and in the clubs he led. Police representative Egils Jefremovs stated that the acts occurred repeatedly and involved various games.
In total, 25 criminal offenses against minors have been registered in the criminal process. Special protected status has been granted to nine children – both girls and boys aged 12 to 14. The suspect had no previous criminal record.
The principal of Engure Secondary School, Jānis Pūce, admitted that the school had suspicions about the teacher but lacked concrete evidence, so the police were not notified. Currently, necessary support is being provided to students and teachers, including assistance from psychologists and specialists from the Child Protection Center.
