Folklore Researchers Resume Expeditions After Six-Year Pause with Visit to Nautrēni
Latvian folklore researchers have restarted field expeditions, this time documenting the Nautrēni cultural space in Latgale, which was added to the intangible cultural heritage list last year.

After a six-year hiatus, Latvian folklore researchers have resumed their scientific expeditions. This summer, a team of 20 researchers traveled to the Nautrēni cultural space in Latgale, officially added to the Latvian Intangible Cultural Heritage list last autumn.
Over the course of a week, the expedition members documented local residents' stories covering various topics—from daily life and cultural heritage to language use, the sense of cultural space, and perceptions of safety. The collected materials will be deposited in the Latvian Folklore Repository, enriching its existing collections.
The researchers emphasize that this expedition will not only help preserve the Nautrēni cultural space but also strengthen other Latvian cultural spaces and their communities, as the insights gained can be applied in a broader context.
