France's Data Center Strategy Criticized; G7 Discusses AI Regulation
France's aggressive approach to attracting data centers faces criticism, the G7 tries to agree on AI regulation, French intelligence will replace Palantir software, and YouTube refuses to fund French TV channels.

France's relentless strategy to attract data centers at any cost is facing growing criticism. Politicians and parts of the tech ecosystem want to prevent French resources from solely enriching American AI giants.
At the international level, G7 countries are trying to reach an agreement on AI regulation to counter China. Washington's measures regarding Anthropic's AI models have not derailed G7 negotiations.
France's domestic intelligence service (DGSI) will replace Palantir's analytical software with French company ChapsVision's solution, announced Defense Minister Sébastien Lecornu. However, the new system will be adopted only in several months.
Meanwhile, YouTube's director Justine Ryst told POLITICO that the platform does not intend to fund France's crisis-hit audiovisual media. In her view, it is not YouTube's role to save French television channels.
