Football's Identity Crisis: How Super-Rich and Big Business Take Over the Game
European public broadcaster ARTE has released a video report on how football is being taken over by billionaires and large corporations, making tickets unaffordable for fans and threatening club traditions.

The Glittering Facade Hides Darker Truths
The world's most popular sport, football, is increasingly falling under the control of super-rich individuals and big corporations. This issue is highlighted in a new video story produced by the European public broadcaster ARTE. The report points out that behind the glittering facade of the World Cup and other tournaments lies a reality where fair play and local club culture are under threat.
Tickets Become Unaffordable, Clubs Bought Up
For fans, tickets to matches are becoming almost inaccessible due to high prices, while investors and wealthy individuals are buying up clubs en masse, destroying their identity. The video analyzes how this commercialization erodes traditional values and accessibility of the sport.
International Collaboration
The program is published in ten languages thanks to collaboration with several European media outlets, including El País (Spain), Gazeta Wyborcza (Poland), Internazionale (Italy), Kathimerini (Greece), Le Soir (Belgium), Telex (Hungary), Ir (Latvia), Balkan Insight (the Balkans), and Sinopsis (Romania). The project is funded by the European Union through the European Media Platforms fund.
