Latvia's National Armed Forces (NBS) announced on Sunday, 18 October, that the possible threat in Latvian air space declared earlier has ended. During the morning, a warning had been in effect for the Ogre, Aizkraukle and Bauska municipalities, prompting residents there to take precautions.

"We inform you that the possible threat in the air space has ended," said a statement by the army and the Ministry of Defence on the social network Facebook.

What residents were told

While the warning was active, residents of the three municipalities were urged to go indoors, follow the two-wall principle and keep track of official announcements. They were also told that if they spotted a suspicious or low-flying object, they should not approach it and should call the emergency number 112.

Reasons not disclosed

The statement published by the NBS and the Ministry of Defence has so far given no further details about the reasons for the possible threat. The source does not say whether any objects were detected or what the circumstances of the possible threat were.
