Gaujiena New Castle passes to new owner, company Matex financial group
Smiltene Municipality reports that the purchase agreement for Gaujiena New Castle has been signed and the property has officially been handed to its new owner. The company Matex financial group won the castle in a repeat auction with a bid of 173,500 euros.

Smiltene Municipality has announced that Gaujiena New Castle (Gaujienas Jaunā pils), previously owned by the local authority, has officially passed to a new owner. The buyer is the company SIA Matex financial group, which won the property in a repeat auction.
How the auction went
The repeat auction of the municipal property began on 1 August this year. It was held electronically, and two participants were approved to take part. When the auction closed, the highest bid, 173,500 euros, came from the company named above.
Sale completed
The municipality says the purchase agreement has been signed by both parties. The full amount was credited to the municipality's settlement account on 25 September 2026.
The information released by the municipality does not say what the new owner plans to do with the castle or how the building will be used. The future of the castle therefore remains unclear for now, and will become known once the owner makes its intentions public.
The repeat auction and its start were reported earlier. The deal is now complete, and the castle has moved into private hands.
