Halloween Recipe: Milk Chocolate Cookies with Marshmallow Spider Webs
Pastry maker Anna Panna and the confectionery brand Laima have shared a simple Halloween recipe for chocolate cookies topped with marshmallow spider webs.

Latvian pastry maker Anna Panna, working with the confectionery brand Laima, whose products are made by the company Orkla Latvija, has published a Halloween recipe for milk chocolate cookies topped with marshmallow spider webs. Halloween, the eve of All Saints' Day, is marked on 31 October. The recipe is intended for both adults and children and is described as easy to make.
According to Anna Panna, Halloween is a good moment to turn food into something creative and slightly spooky, yet tasty. She says it is also a time when children can be taught that spiders are not frightening and the dark is nothing to fear.
Ingredients (makes 12 cookies)
- 110 g butter
- 200 g brown sugar
- 2 eggs
- 300 g flour
- 50 g cocoa
- 1½ tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp salt
- 200 g Laima milk chocolate "Lācītis Ķepainītis" with almonds
- 6–8 large marshmallows
Method
Beat the butter with the sugar, add the eggs and mix them in. Add the flour, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda and salt, then mix everything together. Stir in the chopped chocolate. Divide the dough into 12 balls and chill in the refrigerator for 30 minutes. Bake at 200 °C for 9 minutes, then let the cookies cool completely.
For the spider webs, place the marshmallows in a warm oven for a couple of minutes until soft. Once they have cooled slightly and are safe to handle, stretch the mass with your fingers into thin strands and lay them crosswise over the cookies.
