Hyundai Reveals Eighth-Generation Elantra with Sharp Design and Increased Dimensions
South Korean automaker Hyundai has unveiled the eighth-generation Elantra (Avante), featuring a boxy design inspired by the "Art of Steel" philosophy, larger dimensions, and a tech-filled cabin with an AI assistant.

Hyundai has officially introduced the eighth generation of its popular sedan, the Elantra (known as Avante in South Korea). The new model boasts a radically angular exterior design, which the company calls "Art of Steel," reminiscent of the Lamborghini Urus. Key exterior elements include pronounced wheel arches, H-shaped LED headlights, hidden door handles, and a sporty silhouette with an integrated rear spoiler.
Compared to its predecessor, the new Elantra has grown significantly in size: length reaches 4765 mm (a 55 mm increase), width is 1855 mm (+30 mm), height remains at 1425 mm, and the wheelbase has been extended to 2750 mm (+30 mm). These additional millimeters provide a more spacious interior that nearly rivals the mid-size segment.
Inside, the car features the latest Pleos Connect multimedia system with a 12.9- or 14.6-inch curved screen and an AI assistant named Gleo AI. The traditional Hyundai logo on the steering wheel has been replaced by four dots, while the gear selector has moved behind the steering wheel. The center tunnel now includes a shelf for charging two smartphones wirelessly, but physical control buttons are retained. Equipment includes a Bang & Olufsen audio system, dual wireless charging pads, 100W USB-C ports, a digital instrument cluster, and ambient lighting.
For the South Korean market, two powertrains will be available: a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine producing 147 hp and a 1.6-liter hybrid system generating a combined 155 hp. The hybrid version features an improved recuperation system and Stay Mode, which allows the climate control and multimedia to run on battery power.
Sales in South Korea are set to begin in the third quarter of 2026, with global markets, including North America as a 2027 Hyundai Elantra model, following later. A sporty Elantra N variant with a 2.5-liter turbocharged engine is also expected in the future.
