Latvian recording studio Audilla has started a new concert recording project called “Audilla Sessions”. Its aim is to give viewers at home a high-quality live music concert experience. The bands Idille and Rīgas Modes, along with a few other acts, have already taken part.

How the project works

Concerts take place in the Audilla studio in front of a small audience and are recorded in high-quality audio and video. The recordings are then published so that a wider audience can watch them at any time and from anywhere. They are shared on the studio's Instagram and YouTube accounts.

The project draws inspiration from “Tiny Desk Concerts”, a series by US public radio network NPR. The creators say that Josh Rogosin, the series' sound engineer, has given the Audilla team his blessing to build a local project using his recording methods.

What has been done so far

The first guests were the band Idille. The project's authors describe the concert as warm and genuine, and an interesting experience for the band members themselves. The fifth recording took place on Friday, at the launch event for the new album by Rīgas Modes. The article's author attended and says the sound quality was excellent and the atmosphere great, although the seating was very uncomfortable. The final result is yet to be seen.

Technical side and plans

The artists' sound is adapted to a living-room format: without large speakers or noise, but with a full instrumental line-up. The video is intended to be high quality with a carefully considered visual style, preserving the artists' authentic image. As a result, each concert becomes long-lasting content.

The authors plan to record ten concerts in one season. Prospective participants have already been approached, and the calendar for the coming months is starting to fill up.
